the special assembly

The special assembly

On Friday the 15th of March, a great tragedy had occurred in Christchurch. Because of it, our school decided to hold a special assembly on Monday the 18th of March. In the assembly, we had a one
-minute silence and we also planted a Kowhai tree, as the Kowhai tree is the symbol of our school(waikowai primary school). Half of the assembly had been inside, and the other half was held outside. We sang the National Anthem and we also sang our school song, Aotearoa. The assembly was in the morning, and when we planted the Kowhai tree, sixteen people of the sixteen cultures at our school(Chinese, Maori, Tongan, Samoan, Tokelauan and eleven more). After we planted the tree, one person from every class put a card around the base of the tree.

After that we went back to class to finish making the cards to the Police, Hospital, and last but not least to the Mosques that were faced with the tragedy. If you would like to donate some money to the Mosques, please click HERE. The cards we made looked sort of like the ones below

Last week we had a lockdown drill that was supposed to teach us what to do if something like the Christchurch tragedy ever happens to us.

the syndicate treaty

the syndicate treaty!

Welcome back  to my blog. This week (or last week; I've lost count of the days) we signed a syndicate treaty, inspired by the Treaty Of Waitangi (there is a picture of the syndicate treaty underneath).

Everyone had to sign it, and in case you haven't noticed it, our names were signed under the section: signed (the bluish lines around the picture).

We also used a fountain pen to sign the treaty:

When we created the syndicate treaty, our year groups determined what we should put in the articles.
The group I was in at the time was Year five boys and my group determined what was in
we chose
  • respect yourself to respect other people, and,
  • treat other people as you want to be treated.
the teachers also added a section under HOME

Bye-bye!
