Gumboot friday

Gumboot Friday

Hi! On Tuesday the 9th of April at 12:00, one hour before lunch, the entire senior syndicate of Waikowhai Primary School posted cards we created ourselves that have positive messages on them in random mailboxes and they all said ‘supporting mental health’ on the back. But what is mental health? Mental health in all about how healthy your’s and other people's minds are. We did all of that because 4 days before that, on Friday the 5th of April, it was Gumboot Friday which is about mental health. The person who created Gumboot Friday called it ‘Gumboot Friday’ because when you have low mental health, it is like your brain is wading through thick mud and you need gumboots to wade through thick mud. On Gumboot Friday you are to wear gumboots if you are able and you want to wear them. When people have low mental health they tend to feel gloomy and you can cheer them up by saying something positive and kind which is why we wrote positive things on card to send out to people. The cards were colourful and when we  finished, we decorated them with smiley faces, people standing around the Earth, hearts and other things that made people feel better (the people standing around the Earth were representing the world as one).

The card that I made!
(it says: Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. I hope this makes you feel better. Senior syndicate)

The idea came from the from one of the students at our school (it was Neeve’s idea to make and post the cards in mailboxes) who had been chosen to do the Healthy Puketapapa Student Questionnaire. This also relates to our inquiry topic (Hauora-wellbeing) because they are both about how you feel and your thinking. Above all of this, my opinion is that people should celebrate Gumboot Friday more often, every year even maybe.

Bye-bye!

Swimming Sports

SWIMMING SPORTS

On Thursday the fourth  of April, the senior syndicate and the rest of Waikowhai Primary School went to swimming sports at Cameron Pools. We do swimming sports every year and is basically a whole lot of races ( about more than thirty) rolled into one day. After we finished our first races, we got to eat morning tea ( which is something  like chips or biscuits) and watch the other races while we waited for our second race. In both of my races I came third 😀 and after most of the races 😌 we had the house relays and also relays in our year groups and I actually got picked for the relays in our year groups but not the house relays 😞. But I think that I just BARELY made it into the relays as I came third in both my races. At the end of the day I was exhausted because I was in two races and one relay and I had sore eyes ( my goggles fell off during the relays 😵 ) but at least I had lunch to look forward to ( Sorry about no pictures, but I couldn't find any so I used emojis instead. I hope you find that okay.).

Bye-bye!
